Hello, I am using microdata from Standard and Special household surveys in Bangladesh. If I understand it correctly, this is how DHS collects and offers their Standard and Special DHS microdata along with cluster longitude and latitude data:
1. Select primary sampling units (PSU) statistically representative of broader geographic / administrative boundaries. -> 2. Collect data from households within the clusters from the selected PSUs. And, 3. Collect cluster longitude and latitude data -> introduce random deviations in the coordinates of clusters to protect privacy before making those data available.
In the case of Bangladesh, the cluster longitude and latitude data are available from the 1999-2000 survey and onwards. Whereas cluster longitude and latitude data are not available for the 1993-94 and 1996-97 standard DHS and the 2001 special DHS surveys. Per the questionnaire, detailed location data is collected.
Is it possible to geocode those cluster locations and introduce noise to the obtained cluster longitude and latitude to protect the privacy of responders as per usual DHS procedure? This will extend the geospatial dataset made available by the DHS to include the 1993-94 and 1996-97 and the special survey for Bangladesh and maybe in other countries as well.
Thanks so much.
