Hello!
How can I determine the previous pregnancy number, previous history of a terminated pregnancy, and current pregnancy order? I am using the BDHS dataset.
Thank you.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
The birth histories include birth order (bord), but when there is no pregnancy history, we cannot construct a pregnancy order. We don't know about pregnancy terminations other than live births, except for the ones that occurred in the calendar (in the past five years).
It would be possible to figure out how many live births a woman had before a termination that appears in the calendar. You can calculate the number of births she had before the beginning of the calendar as v201-v208. You would then add the number of B's that occurred in the calendar before a termination that's in the calendar. That would not be the same as a pregnancy order, but it could be useful for your analysis.
In some surveys, vcal_6 gives more detail on the T's in vcal_1. It will tell you whether the T was a stillbirth, miscarriage, or induced abortion. However, not all surveys include vcal_6.
