Hi,
I'm not familiar with the DHS surveys. I'm working to reproduce a methodology to calculate the wealth index from 43 DS surveys using the PCA. (Households) using 11 attributes? (Rooms per person, Electricity, Floors, Water, Toilet, Phone, Radio, Tv, Car, Motorbike, Fridge).
My question is how to select them from the surveys? I want to extract the recode file for each variable (Floors.dta, Tv.dta, etc.).
Thank you in advance for your help.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
This is not easy to do, but you can find many resources that will help on the DHS website. You can search the users forum for references to "wealth". The Guide to DHS Statistics will help. We have produced several Methodological Reports and Analytical Studies that describe the construction of the wealth index. In the journal Global Health Science and Practice (and in other journals) you can find articles that have proposed simplifications of the wealth index.
