Dear all,

I am using the DHS datasets for the Uganda survey year 2006 (dataset UGIR52DT) and 2011 (dataset UGIR61DT). I am using the variables v743f (final say on deciding what to do with money husband earns) and v743b (final say on making large household purchases).
However, I am struggling to understand what's going on. I have read the DHS final reports and how the questions are coded, and accordingly, women have been asked about final say on deciding what to do with money husband earns, but not if husband/partner does not bring in any money (variable v746).
But when I look at the data, there are observations, so even though partner/husband does not bring in any money, women still answer the question "final say on deciding what to do with money husband earns"? But if the husband/partner does not earn any money?
Do you know how I should interpret this?

Moreover, the variable v743b (final say on making large household purchases), has a lot of ".", because only currently married women or living with a partner/husband, are asked this question. But when I check for this, there are still "." even though the woman is currently married. I have tried to understand why this is the case by reading the DHS final report and how the question is coded, but I can't find the reason why there are still ".". Do you know why there are "." for the variable v743b (except that only currently married women are asked)?

Kind regards,
Jennie
