Hello DHS Specialist,
I checked all variables of Indonesia DHS 2017 on STATA. However, I could not find the respondent's age at first marriage. There is ever married sample variable, but all of the amounts are zero. Could you please help me regarding this issue? Thank you.

There is no variable for the sex of the respondent. However, the women's standard variables start with a "V" and the men's standard variables start with an "MV".

Regarding Religion variable (v130) and Ethnicity (v131), could you please explain the meaning of each numbers in the label?
Last, why the age of first cohabitation observations in Couples' Recode and Births Recode are different? Is Births' Recode include all observations of women in the survey?
Thank you so much for your reply and help.

Regards, Nadia

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

Religion and ethnicity (v130 and v131) were not included in this survey.

If you want age at cohabitation for all women, you should use the IR file, in which the cases are women. In the BR file, the cases are children. The mother's data are attached to the child, but women who had no children are not represented and women who had many children appear once for each child. In the CR file, the units are couples (men and women who identify each other as partners). Women who are not paired with a man will not appear; men who are not paired with a woman will not appear.

Thank you for your reply.

I wonder about the income status of the respondents. Is there any variables that represent the income status?

Nadia

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

DHS surveys include the wealth index, in continuous form and as wealth quintiles, but not income.

Hi,

What would the best variable be to use to represent income? I am looking to show that it might change in response to a weather shock, which wealth doesnt capture/do.

Thanks in advance

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

I suggest that you read through the questionnaire for this survey to see whether you can find a variable that is a good proxy for income. The questionnaire is in an appendix to the final report.
