I have been trying to access data on the siblings of female respondents. In some datasets (e.g. the 2015 Individual Recode dataset for Angola), I can do this using the mm1, mm2, mm3, etc. variables. For example, mm1_01 tells me the gender of the respondent's eldest sibling, mm2_01 tells me whether they are alive and mm3_01 tells me their age (if they are alive). However, in other datasets, these variables are absent. For example, there seems to be no variables whatsoever on siblings in the 2011 Angola Individual Recode dataset.
Is there some way to construct these variable for all DHS surveys? If so, how do I do it?
Many thanks in advance for any ideas or pointers!

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
The sex of the siblings is given by mm1 in the IR file. If the respondent had no siblings at all, then mm1_01 will be coded Not Applicable. Can you give an example of a survey with mm variables that does not include mm1?
