Hello ,
I am writing a dissertation which looks at how an increase in length of maternal schooling affected malaria in children in kenya. However i am a bit confused by the dataset.
There are some missing values especially hml35 which is the most important thing in the dataset as its the result of the rapid test. I am wondering why i can only see negative and no positive, the rest of the spaces are just blank .
I am also wondering why it is labelled hml35_01 - hml35_20 , why are there 20 different variables instead of just one and why are the values missing.
Thank you.

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
I recommend that you switch from the HR file (with one record per household) to the PR file (with one record for each household member). _01 through _20 are the line numbers of the household members.
You can also use the KR file for data on children and their mothers.
If a variable in a Stata file is coded with a dot (.), that means "Not applicable" or NA. It does not mean "missing". For example, if someone is outside the age range for a malaria test, their code is NA. Please check previous forum posts and answers and the Guide to DHS Statistics. Also the questionnaire in an appendix to the main report on the survey you are using, and chapter 1 of the report.
