Hi everyone,

I cannot seem to locate any of the glucose variables in the 2016 South Africa DHS, despite this survey being listed as having glucose measurements.
I looked in the individual recode, household member recode, and "Adult Health" dataset to no avail.

Could anyone tell me where I can find these glucose measurements?

Thank you!

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:

I agree that the glucose testing-related variable labels could have been more user-friendly! You are looking for variables in the PR file that have "hba1c" in the variable name. Specifically, shwhba1c for women and shmhba1c for men.

The first character in the name, "s", stands for "special", the "h" stands for "household survey" and then "w" for "women" and "m" for men. The name of the test is HbA1c ( https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/guide/glycated-hemoglobin-tes t-hba1c).

Also, the Adult health data file has questions related to "Diabetes or blood sugar". Questions S1413F and S1426 are related to that topic.

Good luck!
