I would like to calculate the mean age at childbearing on the religion basis of Indian population. Are there any resources on how to calculate such indicator in Stata?

Hello,

You can compute age-specific fertiliy rates by religion, and from them compute mean age at childbearing.

With Stata, you can use the tfr2 command, that will compute age-specific fertility rates, TFR and mean age at childbearing (with the mac option). For instance, if you type

by v130, sort : tfr2, mac

You will have age-specific fertility rates, TFR and MAC by religion.

This works fine with the latest DHS in India, but you should be careful to use the correct all-women factors when computing age-specific fertility rates with previous surveys, when they were conducted among ever married women. I did not check if all-women factors are available by religion; if not, you can compute them from the household data.

You can also have access to the Stata programs for fertility rates on

https://github.com/DHSProgram/DHS-Indicators-Stata/blob/mast er/Chap05_FE/FE_TFR.do

I think the SPSS codes for fertility indicators are not yet available.

Best regards,

Bruno
