Dear dhsprogram team,
I write to make an inquiry on how induced abortion was calculated for in 2017 Ghana Maternity and Health Survey (GMHS). In the 2017 GMHS dataset that I downloaded, I found that induced abortion is 14.77%, compared to the 10% in the GMHS report, miscarriage is 15.6% compared to 12% in the GMHS report, and stillbirth is 4.49% compared to 2% in the GMHS report. Kindly explain to me why this percentages differs and probably how to generate the same percentage with that of the final report.
Thanks and warm regards.

Dear user,
Whether it is OK depends on what you are trying to calculate. The percentages do not match because, as the title of table 6.1 specifies, table 6.1 shows that 10.4% of pregnancies in the last five years ended in abortion. What you are calculating, if you are using the women's individual file (I believe this is a raw file and not recode), is the percent of women who experienced abortion. This is based on responses to question 207. Table 6.1 is tabulated based on responses to questions 212/220. Perhaps looking at the questionnaire will help you decide.
Please note that the percent of women who have had an abortion that is not the same thing as an abortion rate. If you want to calculate the abortion rate, you would need to use the pregnancy file, which is unique to Maternal Health surveys. I do not see this as publicly available, so let me follow up.
Thank you,
Lindsay
