While the DHS collects a wealth of information ideal for use in evidence based policy analysis, it currently lacks information regarding disability. Such information is imperative in forming policy that will ensure that these individuals do not remain marginalized in their communities.
The six questions on disability developed by the UN Washington Group on Disability Statistics offers a starting point for the DHS to include this topic in its surveys. These six questions about adult disability can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/washington_group/WG_Short_Measu re_on_Disability.pdf
