On behalf of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics (WG) we would strongly endorse the ‎inclusion of the WG short set of 6 questions for the general population (and the children's questions that are currently under development is collaboration with UNICEF)on the DHS.
The WG short set questions are seen as the international standard for measuring disability (see the United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD), Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses (2nd Revision) Section VI-8: Disability Characteristics pages 178-183; available online at: http://unstats.un.org/unsd/demographic/sources/census/docs/P &R_Rev2.pdf).
Also, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in association with the Statistical Office of the European Communities (EUROSTAT) is making its recommendations to the Conference of European Statisticians for the 2020 Censuses of Population Housing. These recommendations will also endorse the WG approach to measuring disability.
The WG questions (see note by Dave Gordon - sadg) have been extensively tested both cognitively and in the field in several countries around the world.
