With a growing focus on programmes and policies for adolescents, there is an increasing demand for adolescent-specific data for global and country-level monitoring of progress in HIV prevention efforts.
UNICEF HQ HIV/AIDS team would like to recommend that the respondents' age be expanded to include those age 10-14. Age-appropriate questions (e.g., knowledge, stigma, ever tested for HIV, etc.) may be considered, drawing on the experience of the last round of Swaziland DHS (which included respondents age 12-14) as well as Violence Against Children (VAC) surveys in a number of countries in Africa.
Furthermore, we would like to suggest that oversampling of adolescents be considered to allow for sufficient sample size of the adolescent age groups. This would enable us to do further analysis and generate meaningful results to guide adolescent programmes and policies.
