Hi,
I would like to estimate the duration (in minutes) of ANC visit using data from the ANC observation in the CDAN71FLSP dataset.
Here is my stata code:
gen start=(c102h*60) + c102m
gen end=(oa125h*60)+ oa125m
gen duration=end-start
Running this command, the duration of ANC visit observed ranges from 0 minutes to 305 minutes. Surprisingly, women for whom the duration of observation is 0 minutes, have all the ANC procedures performed. I wonder if I used good variables or good code because the results seem incredible to me.
Please advise!

Dear user,
Thank you for your question-it is a good question. Your code is correct. For the most part, except for perhaps the outliers on the higher-end, I would not say this is a data quality issue without further exploration. Rather, the issue is likely related to the nature of observing consultations in a health facility assessment. In many cases, women will receive standard components of care, e.g. blood pressure measurement, weight measurement, prior to the start of the consultation. The interviewer records the start and end time of the consultation according to time the "main provider" met with the client. However, if a client had those services provided before the visit of the "main provider" by another provider or technical assistant, these services may also be recorded as having been provided.
I hope this helps,
Lindsay
