Hello,

I would like to work with the variables M15, M65A-M65X, V744A-V744E. However, when going through the data, these variables have no answers and are completely blank. Reading the 2011 Report from this dataset, I know that these variables were reported on, but for some reason, they do not appear when I open STATA, SAS, or SPSS datasets. Is there something I am able to do to view these?

Have you checked the FRQ or MAP file that come with the datasets (you can open them in Notepad or some other text editor software)? These files will tell you whether there were observations with valid values for these variables. If they were not collected, there should be a prefix or suffix of "N/A" or some variant of it in the variable label. Another thing to check is make sure you are looking at the correct dataset. The pregnancy-related variable may have been stored in the birth recode dataset instead of the individual recode file.

The M65A-X variables are "not applicable" (NA), because the question was not asked in this survey. However, M15: Place of delivery is present in the data.

Hi, your help will be most useful. I am analysing the determinants of at least 4 antenatal care visits in Zimbabwe. I am doing a multilevel analysis. I want to limit my data to births in the last five years preceding the 2010 survey (v208). I see that there were multiple births among mothers during that period so I want to further restrict my analysis to last born child.I am using SPSS, and using IF condition satisfied v208>0 was my syntax for all births. I have looked at the variable v235, and wondered whether I can use this to restrict my data to the last birth- the trouble is I don't understand because the variable is an index coded 0 for no prior child. Now I dont understand the scores that follows after which range from 2-5.As a guesswork I tried if condition is satisfied v235>0 to get the last birth, is this correct please?

I assume you are using the KR (Children's recode) file. You will not have success with the V2xx variables as these are variables related to the woman and the data for all children under 5 will have the mother's data attached to that record.

The KR file is already restricted to live births in the last five years. If you want to restrict to just the last birth in the last five years, simply select the cases where MIDX==1. Those cases are always the last live birth.

Hi,
I am interested to work with the "Factors associated with place of delivery" and would like to know, do I need to merge datasets? For instance, both IR and BR files or, may be IR and HR file? Besides, I found the total number of births but not sure how to know the total number of women who gave births, among all the women interviewed in 2014 BDHS.
