I'm trying to create a dummy variable using the IR datafile and I want to make sure each child has one line. I believe each vaccination variable has multiple columns for each child in the household. (i.e. h2_1,h2_2, h2_3, h2_4 etc are showing the bcg status for each child). If this is correct, do I need to reshape the data from wide to long or is there any other way to ensure each child has a line?

You might want to use the Child file (KR) or the Births file (BR), because in these files, the unit of analysis (case) is the children of women born in the last 5 years (0-59 months)(KR), or the children ever born of eligible women (BR).

Please read about dataset types at: https://www.dhsprogram.com/data/Dataset-Types.cfm
