Hello,

While comparing listed occupations on the Kenya DHS in 2003, 2008, and 2014, I find that the grouped occupation changes dramatically between 2008 and 2014. This results in a big jump in workers with "household and domestic" occupations.

Is there an explicit mapping of how DHS grouped these occupations each year? I would like to understand why this uptick occurs.

Thank you!

Following is a response from DHS Chief of Data Processing, Guillermo Rojas:

Occupation variables for women, men and husbands have two definitions (V716, V717, MV716, MV717, V704 and V705). Variables V717, MV717, and V705 have standard recode codes whereas the others are country specific even within the same country, across surveys. The only way to know how the CS codes were recoded into the standard variables is to check the construction of the standard variables in the recode applications. The standard variables have not changed over time.
