Hi everyone,
I am interested in constructing variables for violence that is only perpetrated in last 12 months for all women. I am working with the domestic violence question (d103a, d103b, d103c...). And for phases 6 and 7 these seem to take values "never", "often", "sometimes", "yes but not in the last 12 months" where the reference period is past 12 months.
My questions is what do these options mean for women who are divorced or widows. How were the questions asked to women who are divorced/widows/not living together? I understand they refer to the last partner but it is not clear to me fow to interpret the values of their response.
For instance: What does the reference period of past 12 months mean if the question is asked to a widow whose husband died 2 years ago? If she experienced domestic violence then will it be "often" or "sometimes" OR "yes, but not in past 12 months"? For those who have been divorced/widow for more than a year and experienced domestic violence, will it always be "yes, but not in past 12 months"?
For those who have acquired the marital status of widow/divorced/not living together in past one year, should we still interpret the four codes as belonging to past 12 months? So "often" means often in past 12 months and so on...
Can someone please clarify the meaning of the four codes for women who are widow/divorced/not living together?
Thank you in advance for your help. Much appreciated!
