The request is submitted by HelpAge International.
Research in low- and middle-income countries shows that better access to health and care services as well as health outcomes are associated with higher household income. At the moment, DHS collects data on income from labour and household assets but misses another important source of income - social benefits.
Access to social protection for example, universal social pension, increases household income, improves health outcomes for recipients of grants, and benefits other members of the household like children.
Collection of this information is important to understand health inequalities between groups with secure income, social benefits and those without any social protection.
Therefore HelpAge International requests that:
i. This question is added to the household schedule, and
ii. Information is collected for of all adult members of household by sex and age.
