Hi,

Using the Individual Recode (HTIR*) and Men's Recode (HTMR*) data sets for Haiti 1994 to 2016, I try to compare the occupations of individuals across time. I struggle with two things:

1. The 2005 occupational data are only partially labeled for the Stata version, e.g. mv716, v716, and v704 are unlabled. Can you hint me to where I can find the relevant information / labels?
2. Do you have any guidance for creating an intertemporal variable of occupational codes which goes beyond v717 and v705? I am not strictly bound to 1994-2016, 2000 or 2005 as starting year and 2012 as end year would also work.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:

We have confirmed the list of occupation codes in the 2012 and 2016-17 surveys with the survey manager and data processing expert for those surveys. The attached matches with the value labels for those surveys. We cannot find a corresponding list for the earlier surveys, and there were probably some differences, because some of the numerical codes found in the earlier surveys do not match the possible codes in the more recent lists.

It's unfortunate that we do not seem to have those earlier value labels. Perhaps you can find some archived reports or information from the Haiti statistical office from those earlier dates.
