Dear Forum members,
Please I am requesting for a guide to merge children file variable B5 to household file for DHS 2003 Nigeria.
I have attempted using ID HV001 and HV002 for household file with V001 and V002 for children file to merge. It has merged
the files but providing me more number of observations. Please can you advice me on how to go about merging the files.
Thank you.

Note that in IPUMS DHS nearly all of the household variables are already attached to children, so there is no need for merging files.
Login using your DHS username (email) and password. Select Children as your unit of analysis; then select the sample (Nigeria 2003). Navigate to the child and household variables you want, and add them to your data cart by clicking the + sign next to them. To download your tailored data file, click on "View Data Cart" in the top right corner of the screen and follow the steps. (You'll probably want to click "Change" when you see the DATA FORMAT option, so that the data file matches your statistical software package.)
