Hello everyone,

I am working on a project where I need to calculate the sex ratio. To be sure that I am calculating the ratios correctly, I thought of comparing the figures with the official report using the sample weight. But my numbers somewhat off. Could anyone advise where am I going wrong? Am I using the wrong weights (although I have tried one by one with various weights given in the data). Your help would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Neha

Following is a response from DHS Chief of Data Processing, Guillermo Rojas:

Sex ratios are calculated using the BR file (births). The following variables are used in the calculation:

• B2 - Year of birth
• B4 - Sex
• B5 Living status

After counting the number of girls and boys, the ratio is calculated by dividing the number of girls by the number of boys and multiplying by 1000.
