What does it count? As far as I understand this variable is describing about the child who born just before of the last child.and what is the relation between B0 in KR file and B0$1-B0$20 in IR file? For my research interest i need to use IR file and want to create a variable B0 from B0$1-B0$20.Pls help me.

A response from Dr. Tom Pullum:
Quote:
You are right. The subscript "02" refers to the next-to-last child. In lower case notation, which I prefer, bord_02 is the birth order of that child.
In the KR and BR files, the "b" variables do not have subscripts. The subscript is given with the variable "bidx". The next-to-last child is the one with bidx=2, and the birth order for that child is the value of "bord".

Yes, can you please tell me about the spss coding of BORD/B0 of KR file? I've studied recode manual, and available videos of DHS bt unable to configure it. I need to create variables like B0/M18 (which exists in KR file but i'm using IR file for my research interest and i need to use it) by merging B0$1-B0$20
