I am a new user of DHS data and have looked at several DHS6 and DHS7 data sets in sub-saharan African countries, but many are missing information for HV026 in household data and V026 in individual data. Is there another variable that measures the size of the community where the interview was conducted?
Thanks for your help.

Dear User,
Can you please provide at least one example of this so we can research properly? Please provide the dataset you are working with and the survey year.
Thank you!

An alternative variable that you could use for samples from 2000 forward (for samples with public GPS data) is the contextual variable on population density included in IPUMS-DHS (available at idhsdata.org)
https://www.idhsdata.org/idhs-action/variables/POPDENSITY#de scription_section
This variable allows you to set your own uniform standard for what level of population density qualifies as urban.
Alternatively, you could use the DHS's dichotomous URBAN/RURAL variable (V025), which appears to be more consistently available across samples.
