I am having difficulty identifying the district, county and sub-county for observations in the 2011 Uganda DHS dataset. For the 2006 DHS these variables were named shdist, shcounty and shscty. These variables do not appear on the 2011 UGHR60FL.DTA dataset. Does anyone know how to identify this information?

The files called UGHR60FL.FRQ, UGHR60FL.FRW, and UGHR60FL.MAP give descriptions/tabulations of all variables in the UGHR60FL dataset. You can open these in Notepad/textedit, and do a search (CTRL F) for district, county, etc. If the vbl is in the released dataset, you should be able to see what the name is in the dataset. Check also the Individual Recode file if you can't find it in the HH recode dataset. Remember that Stata is case-sensitive

Dear all,

This is to inquire if I can get the 2007 SPA data for Uganda with the district variable. The UGSR5S file shows that district variable was deleted, is it possible to get the data with district variable.

Thank you

Peninah

Dear User,
A response from data processing expert, Claudia Marchena:

In surveys before 2009 the consent for SPA surveys did not allow to share locations for facilities nor facility names. Providing this piece of information will potentially identify facilities since, for instance, there are few hospitals and if district location would have been provided, it could identify the hospital. This would violate the confidentiality terms set for SPA surveys before 2009.

Hi Liz,

Thanks to Claudia for the response.

Now my question is on linking 2007 Uganda SPA data.
My unit of analysis is health facility so I have merged ANC data to Provider using facilty number and ProviderID. I have then tried to merge the new data file to facility data using facility number.
However, I get an error message "Duplicate key in a file. The BY variables do not uniquely identify each case on the indicated file. Please check the results carefully". I would like to know if there is something I did not do well and what that message means. Any other information on how I can merge the 3 datasets is welcome. I am using SPSS.

Thanks and Kind regards

Peninah

Dear Liz,

Will it be possible to know what districts are defined in the seven regions of the 2007 Uganda SPA data?
I am trying to merge the SPA data with non-DHS data, which is only identified on district level, hence I need to know what districts are within each region to match the identifying variables. Will that be within the confidentiality terms?

Thank you
Cecilia

Were you able to identify the district names for the 2006 Ugandan DHS?

Thanks in advance,

Dear User,
As indicated in an earlier post, for the Uganda 2006 DHS these variables were named shdist, shcounty and shscty. The values are there but the names are not specified. Please contact the implementing agency if you need additional information:

Wondering if anyone was successful matching the ids in 2006 Uganda DHS to names?
