Using the 2010 DHS survey of Timor Leste, I am looking to match respondents with control data at relatively precise geographic levels.
My preference would be to use the suco level (for a brief discussion of this administrative level in Timor Leste, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucos_of_East_Timor). Alternatively, I could use the posto level, which is one administrative level higher than the suco. One level higher than the posto is the distrito, which is not useful to me. After the distrito is the country-level.
The DHS data that I have includes codes for sucos and distritos. The codes for the suco are numeric (variable name ssuco or shsuco, depending on the raw data file), have no label, and as far as I can tell do not correspond at all to the census codings or TLSS codings of the sucos.
Does any user know of a listing of which geographic areas the suco codes included in the data correspond to? Alternatively, does anyone know of a reliable strategy for matching codes with sucos? I haven't found any documentation on this issue in Timor-Leste, but it does seem like there are some instances in which people have been unable to use sub-national geographic divisions in other countries' DHS data because there are no other descriptors provided beyond the numeric codes.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!
