I just wanted to follow up on a second question. I noticed now that while the variable sshdist in the 1996 Zambia DHS includes a district code, there do not seem to be any labels for the codes and I cannot find what districts the different codes map to in the 1996 documentation (perhaps I am missing something?). Is there a way to get the data on which districts these codes refer to?

Thanks for your post. No GPS data was collected for the Zambia 1996 DHS either. Attached is an Excel file that gives the region (province) and district names for each of the clusters in the survey. As with the 2001 data, the worksheet named "Instructions" explains what each of the fields are. You can join the names to the household recode file based on the hv001 field. I hope you find this information useful.

Hi Josh,

I would like to run spatial models at the district level with the DHS data for Ghana(GDHS 2008). However, the district variable in the data does not specify the district names/codes so it is not possible to run the models at the district level. Would you be able to send us the district names and their corresponding codes for all 10 regions in Ghana?

Thanks for your post. For information on why labels are not included with district codes in the recode files, please view the following topic: http://userforum.measuredhs.com/index.php?t=msg&th=70&am p;start=0&S=fb886831fc5ee39741100a1b01251be8. For the Ghana 2008 survey, one way to assign district names to the clusters would be to use the coordinates from the GPS dataset within a Geographic Information System (GIS) to join the displaced cluster locations to a district boundary polygon shapefile.

Information on our policy of GPS displacement and how to account for it in your analysis can be found here http://userforum.measuredhs.com/index.php?t=msg&th=19&am p;start=0&S=fb886831fc5ee39741100a1b01251be8. The displacement of the GPS data for the 2008 Ghana DHS was restricted at the level of the DHS region (v024 in the recode file). This means that during the cluster displacement process, it was ensured that no clusters crossed any region boundary, but it was possible for a cluster to cross a lower level (e.g. district) boundary during the displacement process. You can view and download the DHS region boundaries for each of our surveys, including for Ghana at the boundaries page of our Spatial Data Repository website: http://spatialdata.dhsprogram.com/boundaries.html?country=GH .

For more information about clusters with missing coordinates, see this forum topic http://userforum.measuredhs.com/index.php?t=msg&th=71&am p;start=0&S=fb886831fc5ee39741100a1b01251be8.

If this has not answered your question adequately, please reply.

Hi Josh,
I have a similar question

I would like to match the Colombian DHS from 2000, 1995, and 1990 with data from another data set at the municipality level. I see municipality was asked in the 1986, 2005, 2010 DHS and that municipality can be inferred from the GPS data in the 2010 DHS, but that municipalilty is not available in the surveys for the 2000, 1995, and 1990 data and the GPS data is not available.

Is there any internal data on municipality that could be shared? Or could the unshared GPS data be used to infer municipality?

I really really really appreciate your help.

Hi, i`m working on a small area estimation model for immunization coverage using the 2013/4 ZDHS set and this requires to have a district variable in the ZDHS which i`m failing to locate. Could you kindly help me with anything that is identifying the clusters to their respective districts or the GPS coordinates for the clusters.

Hi,

We used arcGIS and a Zambia shape file to put together a district matching file for the 2013 Zambia DHS (attached). DHSCLUST is the DHS cluster variable, which you can use for merging the data.

If you use this file, please cite

Thank you very much for the 2013 ZDHS District file. I appreciate a thousand times!!!!!! Could you also help me with the 2007 ZDHS District variabale since the clusters are numbered differently between these two surveys?

Hi,

I`m trying to run a small area estimation model using the recently published data from the ZDHS 2018. Could someone help me with a data file i can use to match cluster id with district variable like the one recently shared on this forum for the 2013/4 data. I will appreciate.

Regards

Hi,

Can you also share the file for the DHS 2018? It would be very much appreciated.

Could you also explain how you do it or provide any reference on how to do it myself?

Regards,
Daniele
