I have been looking at the recently released 2016 DHS as I wish to replicate some analysis I conducted on earlier Nepal DHSs. However, there appears to have been a dramatic change in classification of urban and rural (variable v025). This has produced some strange results in the final report e.g. it appears that both the urban and rural TFR have increased since 2011, while the overall TFR has decreased. The urban TFR in particular now stands at 2.0, compared to 1.6 in 2011. According to statcompiler the percentage of women in urban areas was 14% in 2011 and 63% in 2016. I understand, from the survey report, that this is as a result of "structural changes in the classifications of urban and rural locations", but am struggling to see how I can compare across rounds given this change. Is there a variable which includes the previous urban/rural classification used, or is there a way to construct such a variable?
