Dear DHS team,
I would like to confirm the correctness of the stata code below with regard to the statistical defnition of oevrwieght and obesity for children aged 5-19years. Secondly, which would be most appropriate to model child malnutrition, PR data or KR data?

gen overweight1=.
replace overweight=1 if hc71>200&hc71<9000
replace overweight=0 if hc71<=200

*or
gen overweight2=.
replace overweight2=1 if hc72>200&hc72<9000
replace overweight2=0 if hc72<=200

gen obese=.
replace obese=1 if hc72>300&hc72<9000
replace obese=0 if hc72<=300

Hi Glory,

Does DHS provide weight date for children > 5 years? the hc codes you're referring are only for children aged 59 months or younger.

I'm asking because I am looking for weight data for children > 5 years. Please let me know if you have found this somewhere in the DHS dataset.

Dear User,
Colombia 2005 and Colombia 2010 surveys have variations on the height and weight data. Take a look at the questionnaires for height and weight to see the specifics. These non standard variables may appear as survey or country specific variables in the recode file.
