Which variable in the 2016 Ethiopian DHS is used to estimate women's postnatal care, or check up after delivery? In the older surveys, this was m50_1, but this variable is no more in the new data set. Please advise. Thank you!

I am adding a question on this,

As Yohannes pointed out here, the variable m50_1 is not available this time. However, there appears to be a variable m71_1 as "time after delivery postnatal check took place" yet, I can replicate the findings reported in the EDHS 2016 report. This time I am getting lesser than 17%. Also, I am not quite sure, if m66_1 (respondent's health checked after discharge/delivery at home) can serve to define the postnatal care. the latter seemed that it did not show those clients who gave birth at facility.

Following is a response from Senior DHS Specialist, Ladys Ortiz:

As part of the changes of the DHS woman questionnaire for phase 7, variables m50, M51 and M52 were removed. Woman's postnatal checkup information can now be found in variables M62 and M66. M62 had information for women with delivery at a health facility and M66 for women with delivery at home.

Concerning the numbers you can't replicate, it will be very useful if you'd make reference to the table number (s) you are trying to match in the final report.

Thanks for your quick responses. I have now created the postnatal care variable by combining m62 and m66. I have got a bit closer finding with the EDHS report, but not exactly the same. While the EDHS has reported a sample of 4308 for those women who gave birth in the last 2 years, I have found 4489 samples after doing (drop if v222>=25).
I am also not sure which variable cab be used for postnatal timing. I am presuming that m71 is for the newborns although it does have only few observations. I am observing a total of 632 women with a information for "time after delivery postnatal check took place". Would you assist please.

Here is the code I am intending to use for postnatal care services

Please use variable B19 to filter children in the last 2 years. B19 is an addition (new variable) to the DHS 7 recode data.

Thanks so much,

However, my filter using b19 has provided the same result with v222. I have got a weighted sample of 4889 despite 4308 sample have been reported in EDHS 2016.

I would also appreciate if you be able to address my concerns about the Postanata timing

Your number of children does not match with the report because you are selecting children 0-24 months old, instead of children 0-23 months.

The timing is coming from M63 and M67.

The provider is coming from M64 and M68.
