Hello,
I have a question regarding how the variable hv215 is labeled in the household recode Stata dataset. (GUHR71FL.DTA).
This variable corresponds to the item: "PRINCIPAL MATERIAL DEL TECHO"
My question specifically refers to option 32, which reads in the questionnaire as "LOZAS / TERRAZA". In the dataset, the option 32 is labeled in English as "slab". (Label HV215).
I am hoping that someone can help me ensure that the English translations I have for this questionnaire are correct! It seems to me that the word "Lozas" would translate to something along the lines of "Ceramic/clay/earthenware tiles". However, this roof type is indicated by option 31 "TEJAS (DE BARRO, CERÁMICA O CONCRETO)". Interestingly, the word for "slab" would be "Losas". If the option in the questionnaire were "Losas/Terraza", I would say that this type of roof is a flat, cement roof. I have worked with a translation professional on this issue, and without more information we are unable to come up with a definitive answer.
Is the option meant to read "Losas / Terraza" in the questionnaire? Or, is the translation to English in the variable label incorrect? Or, given that my Guatemalan Spanish may not be up to snuff, is it indeed meant to be "Lozas / Terraza" and translated to English as "slab"?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Karla
