I have a question regarding the Women's and Men's height/weight and haemoglobin variables collected as part of the Household Survey in the 2013 Namibia DHS. From looking at the DHS VI recode manual, I understand that the variables ha0-ha70 correspond to questions asked to/measurements taken from women and hb0-hb70 correspond to questions asked to/measurements taken from men.
However, when I checked whether all respondents to ha0-ha70 questions were women and all respondents to the hb0-hb70 were men, based on the hv104 variable, this was not the case. I checked this both in the HR data set alone and when I merged the HR, IR and MR data sets. There appear to be a number of observations in the ha0-ha70 variables that are recorded as being men and a number in the hb0-hb70 variables that are recorded as being women, according to the hv104 variable.
Furthermore, a number of these men and women have information in both ha and hb variables. Taking BMI for example, a number of men and women have values recorded in both ha40 and hb40 and furthermore these values do not seem to be the same in both variables.
I was wondering whether anyone could explain this to me. Perhaps I have misunderstood the data or recoding but I am unsure how to go about analysing these data and understanding which values to use for various participants with two different values for the same outcome.
Please let me know if you need any further information. Many thanks in advance!
