Dear DHS experts,
I am trying to calculate comparative wealth index for Bangladesh. I have some question regarding categorizing Toilet Facilities:
1. How to recode type of toilet facilities (HV205) as "improved unshared" and "improved shared" when shared toilet (HV225) information is not available (In case of BDHS 1993/94, 1996/97, 1999/2000, 2004)?
2. In BDHS 1993/94, 96/97, 99/2000, and 2004 was Septic tank/ modern toilet (11) and Water sealed/ Slab latrine (21) counted as "improved unshared" or "improved shared"?
Thank you in advance.

A response from Dr. Shea Rutstein:
Quote:
For the earlier surveys with no sharing toilet question, a version was run comparing with the baseline (Vietnam 2002) with V225 not included in the unsatisfied basic need. The country regressions were then run on this baseline.
For the Bangladesh surveys, BD31, BD3A, BD41 and BD4J codes 11 and 21 of HV205 were considered improved unshared although sharing was not used in the calculation of the comparative wealth index.
