Hello,
I am trying to merge the household level Standard DHS data set with the HIV biomarker data set for several countries. I realize that the HIV barcode is the unique identifier that links the data, but it seems that its not unique in household level Standard DHS data. When I perform the merge, I have twice the cases of HIV in the Standard Household dataset as the original HIV data set. I am not sure how to perform this merge in STATA without this issue. Please kindly provide some guidance.
Warm regards,
Ramya

Here is a response from Senior Data Processing Specialist, Noureddine Abderrahim.
To merge the HIV data with the individual data, match the identification of the respondent with the identification of the respondent in the HIV data file. For women use V001, V002, and V003 and match them with HIVCLUST, HIVNUMB, and HIVLINE. For men use MV001, MV002, and MV003 and match them with HIVCLUST, HIVCLUST, and HIVLINE. In case the data is coming from the household, use HV001, HV002, and HVIDX to match them with HIVCLUST, HIVNUMB, and HIVLINE.
