The Kenya DHS 2014 asks the question " Who slept under this mosquito net last night?". When i look for that variable in the dataset, i find it to be hmla to hmle. However, i do not understand what these variables or entries signify. For example,in the dataset, the total number of nets a household is reported to have are 7 and the mosquito nets are reported upto to the 7th in the dataset. Therefore: If I try to interpret the hmla variable as the mosquito net number, it not does not run upto hmlg to signify 7 mosquito nets. How best do I undertand the coding of this variable?

I am also struggling to produce logical statistics around mosquito net usage (Benin 2011-2012). I am trying to create a "Percent of Household who slept under a mosquito net previous night" statistic via the following:
(HML.1 + HML.2 + HML.3 + HML.4 + HML.5 + HML.6 + HML.7)/HV013
Yet I get hundreds of rows that have percentages greater than 100?
For the "Percent of children who slept under a mosquito net previous night" via (HML2/HV014) it appears to give an accurate percentage with just a handful of rows that output greater than 100.
Any guidance on this is much appreciated,
M

A response from malaria expert,Cameron Taylor:
Quote:
Dear User,
Thank you for your question. If you are trying to replicate the "Percent of the household population who slept under an ITN net the previous night" you need to be using the PR file for your dataset. Based on your question it looks like you are trying to replicate the indicator in the HR file. Remember that in the HR file your unit of analysis (each row) is a household while in the PR file the unit of analysis is people/population.
To answer your question try replicating this indicator using the PR file. Also don't forget to restrict the indicator to those who slept in the household the previous night (hv103==1)
Thank you!
