Hello
Kindly tell me what is the difference between m17 and v401 as both of them are for cesarean section. I am using women as my unit of analysis and want to study the last birth or the most recent birth in the last 5 years by c/s. Which variable I should use?
Regards

Dear User,
If you are interested in analyzing the last born child then you would want to use V401. M17 is asked of all the children in the three/five years preceding interview. However, M17(1) is the same as V401 which refers to the last born child.
Hope this helps.

Dear Liz-DHS
Thank you very much for your gentle and quick reply. I am sorry to bother you again i have one more question i am working on NFHS three rounds and cesarean section. In NFHS 1 as there is three years priors to the birth history is available. As far as i know V238 is the variable for deliveries in last three years i am seraching for it but this variable is not present in NFHS 1(1992-93).
What is the alternative variable then?
Thanks in advance
