Hello,

I am using the 2007 DHS from Liberia for my dissertation. I have uploaded the data set. In the domestic violence questionnaire shown in the 2007 report, there are a few questions about ever experiencing (non-partner violence). Ever partnered women are asked "From the time you were 15 years old, has anyone other than your (current/last) partner hit, slapped, kicked, or done anything else to hurt you physically?" Never partnered women are asked "From the time you were 15 years old has anyone ever hit, slapped, kicked, or done anything else to hurt you physically?" The possible answers were "yes, no, refuse to answer." I don't see where the responses to these questions are coded. I only see the responses to the follow up question:

Those respondents who answered "yes" were asked "Who has hurt you in this way?" A series of possible actors are listed, including: mother/step-mother; father/stepfather; sister/brother; daughter/son; other relative; former husband/partner; current boyfriend; former boyfriend; father in-law; other in-law; teacher; employer/someone at work; police/soldier; other (specify).

I appreciate your help!

See d115y. The recoding is as follows:

q1014 -> d115y
1 -> 0 { Yes, someone physically hurt her }
2 -> 1 { No, no one physically hurt her }
3 -> 6 { No response given - refused to answer }
9 -> 9 { Missing - no response recorded }
