I am doing a secondary analysis of two ZDHSs of 2005 and 2010 from Zimbabwe and am supposed to establish the relationship between HIV test outcome and some sexual variables. This will require me to merge the HIV test result file with others and which ones would you recommend merging, the single women and women files or the merged files. I note that the single female file for 2005 does not have all data for the 15 to 19 years olds. It has about 389 data sets yet in the DHS report they indicated that they tested over 2,000 young adolescents. Can you please advise accordingly. I downloaded the SPSS files.

Thank you Liz. A follow up question as ma currently working on the data analysis I notice that when I merged the Female individual file, the male individual file and the HIV outcome file, the total number of HIV positives does not tally with the numbers reported in the ZDHS report. I suspected it is to with analysing the weighted cases but I don't know how I can deal with weighted cases only in SPSS.
First, have I merged the right files to establish relationship between HIV status and sexual practices? If yes, how can i analyse weighted cases only using SPSS?

1) If you only have 389 cases in your merged file for 15-19 year olds, then you have a problem with your merging. I suggest posting your code to allow people to review it and provide feedback.
2) To weight the data in SPSS:
Compute wt = hiv05/1000000.
Weight by wt.
