We are interested in examining the predictors of contraceptive discontinuation among women of reproductive age in Rwanda. Table 7.9 on Page 93 of the recently published DHS report for Rwanda presents the 12-month contraceptive discontinuation rates for women who started a contractive episode within the five years preceding the survey. I have downloaded the DHS data set but I am unable to reproduce the 12-month rates since the "calendar" data is not included in the data set. V359 in the data set pertains to the last method discontinued in the last 5 years. Could you please assist me with obtaining the calendar data for contraceptive discontinuation with the overall goal of comparing those women who discontinued contraceptive use within 12 months of beginning an episode of use to those who did not discontinue within 12 months? We would greatly appreciate any assistance you could offer.

Following is a response from Senior DHS Stata Specialist, Tom Pullum:
Are you using the file RWIR70FL.dta? This file DOES include the contraceptive calendar, as a string variable called vcal_1. It has one character for each month beginning with the month identified by v017 (in general, this is the century month code for January of the calendar year that is five years before the start of fieldwork). In this survey the number of characters or months in the string ranges from 71 to 76, depending on the month of interview.
Last year we did a methodological report based on calendar data (https://www.dhsprogram.com/pubs/pdf/MR17/MR17.pdf) and some other documentation is available if you need help.
