Exploring data file in CDHS 2014
https://userforum.dhsprogram.com/index.phpindex.php?t=rview&goto=20512&th=9481#msg_20512
I just recently learn to work on my Cambodia's 2014 DHS dataset aiming at looking for IYCF indicators(MMD, MMF, MAD) predict nutritional status among children 6-23 month old.
Based on my understanding to find the dataset to fit on analysis purpose, below file I extract to cover all key variables such as Children' weight & length, child's and maternal characteristic and Household residence:
1_KHPR file ( weight andleight of child)
2_KHHR file ( relevant key variable in household)
3_KHKR file ( information related to IYCF indicators)
I am wondering whether the above 3 datafiles will cover all information i wish to analysis.
Any comments or help are much appreciated. Thank you so much!

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
You should be able to do what you want with just the KR file, which has one record for each child born the past five years to the women in the household who were eligible for the women's interview and were interviewed . It contains the anthropometric variables, hw70-hw72. Those variables appear in the PR file as hc70-hc72 and for a somewhat greater number of children--all those who were living in the household, whether or not their mother was alive and in the household and interviewed. The IYCF variables are also in the KR file, and are not in the PR file.
If you want to include household-level variables that are not already in the KR file, I would recommend a merge with the HR file. The merge would match hv001 hv002 in the HR file with v001 and v002 in the KR file. You will probably find that the information you want about the household and the mother are already included in the KR file and you may not need to do this merge at all.
The HR and PR files contain almost exactly the same information. The main difference is that the PR file is very long, with one record for each household member and the HR file has one very wide record for each entire household. The records (cases) in the HR file sometimes include other household-level information that is not in the PR file.

Thanks for your clarification.
For now, i decided to use KR file following your recommendation.
Now, i am exploring child age in KR file which is mentioned b19, however i could not find it. It might replace to other variable?
Since i wish to check minimum meal frequency across aged group of child 6-23months, therefore any comment for clear variable is really appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing you,
Best,

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
That survey would be one of the last ones that did not include b19. The KR file includes the child's age in completed months as hw1. This is calculated as hw1=v008-b3. For age 6-23 months you would include the child "if hw1>=6 & hw1<=23".

Thanks you for your always quick guidance.
Since it is my first time with CDHS data, Now I am wondering how they can compute Minimum Meal Frequency
(MMF) among total child 6-23 month because MMF requirement is normally different set and disaggregated by breastfed and non-breastfed but they did not talk with overall child 6-23month.
Any comment and possible command I could use would be appreciated.
Thanks and looking forward to hearing you,

I calculated Minimum Meal Frequency among children 6-23 month from Cambodian DHS 2014 but the percentages were different from report. May you guide us in detail of coding?
Looking forward to hearing ur tip,

Following is a response from DHS Research & Data Analysis Director, Tom Pullum:
I don't understand your question. Are you trying to match a table in the main report? If so, which table, and what numbers are you unable to match? Or are you trying to understand something in the text? Please be more specific. Certainly no one talks with the child. All the information comes from the mother.]]>Bridgette-DHS2020-12-15T14:33:10-00:00Re: Exploring data file in CDHS 2014

I am using data from Cambodian DHS 2014 to look at percentage of Minimum Meal Frequency (MMF) among children under 2 which mentioned in Table 16.6.
So far, i used KHKR file to compute. I could only find the same percentage of MMF among Breastfed children.
For, Non-breastfed children, i am not sure how we code with milk or milk product correctly before we proceed with MMF analysis among non-breastfed so that the prevalence should be the same in the table 16.6. could you please guide me how to code in this section.
Looking forward to hearing you,
Thanks and best wishes,
Sokvy

The DHS Program has STATA code available on Github to produce several DHS Indicators. Please review the Chapter 11 code for help computing MMF among non-breastfed children. The code is available here: https://github.com/DHSProgram/DHS-Indicators-Stata]]>Bridgette-DHS2020-12-16T21:48:49-00:00
