mortality variables
https://userforum.dhsprogram.com/index.phpindex.php?t=rview&goto=22814&th=10999#msg_22814
I am working on child health in Pakistan.
I have to create a dummy variable(s) for these mortality variables.
NEONATAL MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGE 030 DAYS
POST NEONATAL MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGES 1 TO 11 MONTHS
INFANT MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGES 0 TO 11 MONTHS
CHILD MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGE 14 YEARS
Under-five mortality--Deaths at age 04 years
I have pasted the code can anyone please have a look if the commands are correct to generate these dummy variables for mortality variables.
I am working on the data file PKbR71FL.DTA for Pakistan.
*NEONATAL MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGE 030 DAYS
gen nmr=0
replace nmr=1000 if (b5==0 &(b7==0) )
format nmr %6.0f
*tab prov [aweight=v005], summ (nmr) mean noobs
label variable nmr `"neonatal mortality"'
*POST NEONATAL MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGES 1 TO 11 MONTHS
gen pnm=0
replace pnm=1000 if (b5==0 & (b7>=1 & b7<=11))
format pnm %6.0f
*tab prov [aweight=v005], summ (pnm) mean noobs
*IMR
*INFANT MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGES 0 TO 11 MONTHS
gen imr=0
replace imr=1000 if (b5==0 & (b7>=0 & b7<=11))
format imr %6.0f
*tab prov [aweight=v005], summ (imr) mean noobs
*CHILD MORTALITY--DEATHS AT AGE 14 YEARS
*(includes deaths reported as age 1259 months)
gen cmr=0
replace cmr=1000 if (b5==0 & (b7>=12 & b7<=59))
format cmr %6.0f
*tab prov [aweight=v005], summ (cmr) mean noobs
*Under-five mortality--Deaths at age 04 years
*(also includes deaths reported as age 059 months and 059 days)
gen ufmr=0
replace ufmr=1000 if (b5==0 & (b7>=0 & b7<=59))
format ufmr %6.0f
*tab prov [aweight=v005], summ (ufmr) mean noobs

To get the compound under-five mortality rates it will be best to use the programs posted on our GitHub site (https://github.com/DHSProgram). Code for all the indicators, including the nutrition indicators, can be found there.
