There are many parts of the questionnaire in which decisions about cutoffs and eligibility must be applied during data processing, that is, during the construction of the indicator. You have to discard those extra cases by coding the indicator as "NA" (a dot in Stata) for them. I would expect that the cases you have identified are very close to the boundary for 2 years of age.
Sometimes the questionnaire is intentionally designed to bring in more cases than necessary, in order to avoid leaving it to the fieldworkers to make crucial decisions about eligibility. DHS tries to balance that concern against minimizing the amount of data that will have to be discarded.
Yes, I see that for v413 (for example), most (about 70%) of the responses are for age<2 years but about 30% are for age 2 to 4. There is probably a reason why there are so many responses for children aged 2-4 but I cannot take the time to go down that rabbit hole. I hope another user can help with your question.

https://userforum.dhsprogram.com/index.phpindex.php?t=rview&goto=28824&th=13550#msg_28824
This section is specifically administered if the child is under 2 years old and if the mother has at least one child born in 2017 or later who resides with her.
However, I've observed data related to questions 499M-A to 499M-A for children older than 2 years in the children recode data file. This raises the question of why this data is present, given the stipulated age criterion.
Please explain

There is no simple workaround for this problem. The only way I know how to handle it is to download the .do, .dct, and .dat files that are used to construct the .dta file, edit the .do and .dct files by deleting big blocks of variables, and then reconstructing the .dta file.
Another possibility, if you have SPSS and Stat Transfer, would be to open the SPSS .sav file, delete blocks of variables within SPSS, save, and then convert the reduced .sav file to a .dta file with StatTransfer.]]>Bridgette-DHS2024-03-11T11:43:57-00:00Unable to open data in STATA
