Hi,
I am working on determinants of antenatal care for the state of Jammu and Kashmir (India). I am using the 'Individual Recode' file. With regard to Wealth wealth index, I find various versions wealth index in the data, for instance, All women factor - Wealth Index, Wealth Index combined, Wealth Index factor scores combined (5 decimals) etc. I am not sure which one I should use, keeping in mind that my analysis is restricted to the women who have had a live birth in five years preceding the survey.
Please help.

I want to merge PDHS data with GIS data. In this, I am interested to find average temperature for each month of years (2012-2018) like Mar 2014, April 2016 and so on. Is there a way that I can get this data?

How can I get the VR file of NFHS 3-5? I found the VR for NFHS 2 and has access to other datasets. Can you guide me through this?

Thank You

Dear forum members,
Sorry for my very primitive question, but I am new to working with DHS so I am not very familiar with it yet.

I am trying to start an analysis on Haiti at the departmental level. As far as I understand, the variable v024 or mv024 assigns the respondent to one of the administrative districts, but I cannot find a list of which variable stands for which department.

Is there such a list or where else can I get the information?

Many thanks in advance!

Hello everyone
I am dealing with overweight to under5 in Sub Saharan African countries. So I am using the merged dataset with PR and KR dataset. My outcome variable is "hw72" from KR dataset, which is approximately the same as "hc72" from PR dataset. In most computations for most countries, I am having a difference of like 0.1%, say reported prevalence is 3.5%, but I am getting 3.6%.
What could be the source of the discrepancy that I get.
..AND the special case for Mali, prevalence of overweight to under 5 that I get is quite big, as compared to reported. Any inputs to resolve the issues.

I have defined overweight=1 if hw72>2SD and <=5SD
Overweight=0 if hw72<=2SD, and -5<=SD<=5, was the condition set for valid data.

Dear Assistant,

I am writing to seek guidance and clarification for a research project I am conducting on vaccination coverage in children in select countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. My name is Sancho Xavier, and I am a student and researcher in the field of Epidemiology.

The primary objective of my research is to determine the prevalence and determinants of complete vaccination coverage in children under 32 months, using a dichotomous variable indicating whether the child had complete vaccination coverage or not. I plan to conduct this analysis in selected countries of Sub-Saharan Africa.

I would like to request guidance on where I can find this variable of interest, along with other relevant explanatory variables for my analysis. Additionally, I would like to inquire whether it is appropriate to use the BR database for this purpose, or if there are other databases more suitable for my research.

Thank you in advance for your attention and assistance.

Best regards,

Sancho Xavier

Hello,

My name is Jackie and I am writing a thesis on the impact of the universal primary education policy (effective since 1997) on intergenerational education mobility. My paper is due on April 8.

The DHS surveys conveniently collect all the controls and the independent (parent's education and child's birth year) and dependent variables (child's education) I am interested in.

I ran into some trouble while merging the DHS 2016 data from Uganda. I have more than 65% NA values for my mother variables and more than 88% for my father variables. These are the steps I took:

1) I merged the women's survey with the household member survey. And did the same for men.

2) Then, using the merges above, I called individuals who answered HV101 with 1 or 2 parents and those with 3 or 11 children. HV101 = "relationship to head" where 1 = head, 2 = spouse, 3 = son/ daughter and 11 = adopted / fostered

3) Step #2 created 4 dataframes. I stacked the female children and male children and added their parents' information as columns. So I completely changed the structure and thus the unit of analysis of the original datasets. In my final dataset, the unit of analysis is children.

I am wondering if you have any ideas of why I have so much data missing. The merges were all successful and I am using R. Another worry I have is about my definition of parents: one could be the head of the household but not a parent. However, if I make it such that both conditions have to be true - so HV101 = 1 and HV101 = 2 - I might excluded single-parent households.

I have attached my code down below. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and ideas you have. One I have right now is to use the couple's recode file and just attach the children's information.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Jackie Namala.

I am trying to understand the effects of domestic violence on certain health indicators in India. Health indicators I try to analyse include child mortality, child health, and maternal health. I am using NFHS 2-5 for this purpose. I tried to merge BR and IR files to have the women's DV characteristics with child data, but the exact merges turned to 0. I am confused here.

I learned that the BR file has five births, but the IR has 20. Is this creating the matching problem?

How could I navigate this? Can you help me sort this out? I want the DV characteristics of the mother to understand the health indicators. If someone could hint me with the STATA code, it would be a great help.

Can I create a child mortality dummy using this code from DHS GitHub (link)? Also, can this code generate a child mortality dummy from the KR or IR file, or can it only use the BR file?

Thank You

HI,
I am very unsure about how to progress in my analysis. I have gotten all of the classifications of stunting, underweight and wasting done (eg, -2SD), but now Im unsure about how to progress.
I want to look at the impact that each additional year of education a mother has on stunting and then look at how this varies across urban and rural areas. I then want to look at which classification of education (eg. no education, incomplete primary, complete primary etc) has the greatest relative return.

Any ideas on the commands I would need to put into stata?

Thanks
