Hi,

I am looking at Bangladesh KR file to describe the factors influencing childhood symptoms. Can someone tell me where should I look for the place of cooking. I would like to know is it indoor or outside. So far I can only find type of cooking fuel.

Thanks in advance!

Hi.

The variable you're looking for is located in the household recode file...
Please check out my example (attached) using the HR file for Bangladesh DHS 2014: (BDHR72FL)...

As an alternative to merging the household file to the IR file yourself, you could access the linked data through the IPUMS-DHS database (at idhsdata.org). The IPUMS-DHS staff has merged household data with the IR (woemn's), KR (child), and BR (birth) files, so you don't have to do it yourself. The variables that you are interested in, HV241 Place for cooking (also available as COOKWHERE) and HV226 type of cooking fuel (also available as COOKFUEL in IPUMS-DHS) are available when you choose women as the unit of analysis and look at the variables related to "Housing." Or you can search for variables of interest using their standard DHS variable name on the "Select Data" page of IPUMS-DHS.

The DHS Bangladesh surveys are now available through IPUMS-DHS.
