Hello,
I am new to DHS data and SPSS data. Studying Economics at University I need to create an Article on Women's empowerment and intend to use the Womens DHS data from Bangladesh to show the factors that influence empowerment levels. (Domestic Violence, attitudes to wife-beating, Decision making, mobility and control over resources.)
However, due to being new, I can't seem to properly get to grips with the DHS 2011 Bangladesh data within IBM SPSS. Both the data and SPSS are quite confusing. I was wondering if there are any guides/videos/help in general I could obtain so I can carry out my research step by step on the levels of empowerment in Bangladesh; any help would be much appreciated!

You may find the IPUMS-DHS website helpful in identifying variables available in your interest areas. Since you are interested in the Bangladesh data, I will use the survey selection tool to limit to those DHS samples, but one could do a similar look for any country or group of countries in the database.
1) Go to idhsdata.org
2) Click on Select Data
3) Choose women as the unit of analysis (IR file data)
4) Use the survey selection button to limit samples to Bangladesh DHS

An X means the variable is in the sample listed above it. Clicking on the variable name brings you to detailed information about each variable, including the question wording, who was included (universe) and what the variable means. If you log in with your DHS user email and password, you can make a customized data file with the samples and variable you need, in the format you prefer (e.g., Stata, SAS, SPSS).
While I encourage you to explore the other advised resources about the DHS, I think you could jumpstart your research project working with the IPUMS-DHS documentation and customized datasets.
