Hello,

I am working with the Liberia 2007 dataset, specifically with the domestic violence module. I have looked at the questionnaire and the recode manual, but I cannot see where the questionnaire assesses partner physical and sexual violence for the past 12 months specifically. This information is reported in the public report, however I only see questions related to ever-perpetrated partner violence.

Thank you!

Dear User,
The recode variables:
D105A - D105K
address the choices in Q1005 (the questionnaire) which include physical and sexual violence. The recode variables in the domestic violence section start with the letter "D".
Thank you!

Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for your response. A few quick follow up questions:
- What is the variable in the data set that relates to question Q1005?
- Do variables D105A - D105K only refer to experiences in the past 12 months?

On a slightly unrelated question, is there a way to see the population estimates at the subnational level that were used to create the sampling weights for the 2007 Liberia DHS?

Thank you very much!

Dear User,
Recode variables D105A - D105K are generated from Q1005 (the questionnaire) which include physical and sexual violence.
Yes, the variables D105A - D105K only refer to experiences in the past 12 months.
As far as the population estimates at the subnational level, I don't believe we can provide that information as we are mandated to keep respondent confidentiality. However, I will forward your request to someone else who should know definitively.
Thank you!

Thanks very much for your help with this! Just to clarify, I was hoping to simply get a gross population estimates for each of the 60 or so districts in Liberia for 2007/2006, so this wouldn't involve any respondent confidentiality as far as I am aware (since these are broad demographic estimates, not individual survey responses). I hope this makes sense and thank you!

Dear User,
Here is a response from senior sampling expert, Dr. Ruilin Ren:
Quote:

The 2006/2007 Liberia DHS was designed based on the 2005 projected population at county level, the latter was given in the Appendix A of the final survey report. The population projection should be very rough or imprecise because there was simply no other references available. The projected population was not involved in the sampling weight calculation, sampling weight was calculated based on the selection probability (probability proportional to the number of structures residing in the cluster recorded at 1984 census) and the household listing and the survey results. Regional level population estimation based on survey results was not produced because it was simply not in the scope of the survey. Since the survey involved in HIV testing, all intermediate survey results were destroyed following the survey protocol. Therefore, it was not possible for us to provide the gross population estimates for Liberia in the year 2006/2007, at any administrative levels. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Thanks

Ruilin
