Dear DHS Specialist,

I am working on the panel DHS data 2006-07 & 2012-13 for Pakistan. However, i observed that the number of districts in the DHS 2006-07 are just 35 while total districts covered in the DHS 2012-13 are 121. I would like to confirm the number of districts in the DHS 2006-07. Did only 35 districts use for the data collection in 2006-07? District indicator is sdist.

Thanks and Regards,
Faiz

The number of districts in the 2006-07 DHS is correct; the reason you are seeing only 35 values is due to the fact that the district numbers were survey generated and are only unique within any one region. Since the numbers were generated per region, there are only a maximum of 35 districts in any one region, but that is not the maximum for the entire survey.

Thank you very much Matt,

It means that DHS surveyed 35 districts in one province and less than 35 districts in other three provinces of Pakistan. There are four provinces in Pakistan which are surveyed in 2006-2007 DHS.
