In the dataset variable V131 there are over 60 ethnic groups. These are grouped together in the DHS report into 5 main groups (Akan, Krou, Mande du Nord, Mande du Sud, Voltaique due Sud and Autre).
I would like to know how this grouping is done so that I can do the same with the dataset I am using.
I'd be very grateful if someone could give me this information.

In Cote d'Ivoire 1994, we did not run tables on ethnicity. However, the original ethnicity codes for the 1994 survey are listed at the end of the country specific documentation (CIIR35.DOC).
