I would like to know how to construct a variable for the year of death of a child. The year of birth is given and the age at death is given. But is there a way to simultaneously create this variable for all 16 children in the data set? This would help save me a lot of time.
I am using DHS-3 India data and working with the couples file.

Variables B6 and B7 in a recode file have to do with age at death of a child. If you look at the Standard Recode Manual, you will see a complete explanation of these and other related variables. http://www.measuredhs.com/pubs/pdf/DHSG4/Recode6_DHS_22March 2013_DHSG4.pdf

I have the same question:
Is there an easy way to compute time since death for most recently born children?
We can see using b5_01 that x many of the last born children have died. Using b6_01 and b7_01 we can see how old they were when they died, but there is no CMC date- so I cannot see an easy way to calculate this.
What I am trying to code is the time between most recent child's death and the survey year.
Thank you!
