Hi,

I am using the 2005/06 Zimbabwe data and am having trouble locating the stratum number variable. According to the final report,

"With the exception of Harare and Bulawayo, each of the other eight provinces was stratified into four strata according to land use: communal lands, large-scale commercial farming areas (LSCFA), urban and semi-urban areas, small- scale commercial farming areas (SSCFA), and resettlement areas. Only one urban stratum was formed each for Harare and Bulawayo, providing a total of 34 strata."

v023 and v024 are identical and are province (10). v022 has 197 stratum numbers, and I have searched a number of different ways but can't seem to find a variable for land use that could be combined with v024 to get the strata....

Can you suggest where to find/what to do about the stratum in this case?

Thank you.

Unfortunately the full information needed for the coding of strata according to the land use designation is not available. We recommend using the combination of urban/rural and province instead. In practice this will be very close to what you would have produced with the strata based on land use and province, and there will be no meaningful difference in results.
